Sure, I may have been the second-best student in my second grade art class (weird brag), but it wasn’t art that got me into design and art direction. It was business. My business obsession led to my initial pursuit of finance and accounting in school, but after a few semesters I found myself more interested in how marketing contributed to the success of certain brands and demise of others.
Marketing opened my eyes to design which meant a lot of late nights learning Photoshop and a lot of rough mornings (and goals scored on me) at hockey practice. But I learned to love it. I found myself with a motion design internship at MullenLowe, which helped to build my broad skill set but mostly consisted of me executing other people’s ideas. After animating countless social posts and banners, I knew I wanted to be on the other side of the process—the idea side.
I’m currently a Senior Art Director at Digitas/GroupeConnect in Boston, where I work on Lenovo, Bank of America, iRobot and more. Whether you like my work or just want to chat, feel free to email me at billy@billypalmer.com.
